John served Chapter 10 in many positions to include Commander and Adjutant for 10 years.  More importantly, he served as a mentor and leader to many of the Chapter 10 Officers that followed.  Due to his service in the U. S. Army with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment as a reconnaissance scout, John incurred disabilities in the line of duty.   He served as the Department of Wyoming Commander from 1987-1988. That led to his professional career of 28 years with DAV.  John left us way too soon in June 2016.

To honor the service, dedication and unrelenting advocacy for disabled veterans and their families, Chapter 10 created the John Maki Distinguished Service Award which is presented annually at our Holiday Banquet.
